A Quick Note on the Christmas Cookie Murder
My mistake. I thought The Christmas Cookie Murder one was the first book in the series… but it appears to have been something like the fifth or sixth, which is annoying. I hate reading books in a series out-of-order.
But you know what? This book was a good enough read that it didn’t really make a difference. Some series books that I’ve read out of order wind up spending too much time obviously reiterating past story so that you’ll be caught up - you know the sort of thing. “Amy looked at the fish lying on her kitchen table, remembering the fish related adventure she’d had last year when her boat sank in the harbor…” etc etc.
So - yeah. It was a good read. I did feel, like I was discussing the other day, that the “mystery” was probably the weakest part of the book. There was a point towards the middle when I was like, “Wait, wasn’t somebody murdered? Is that ever going to be mentioned again?” Well, it was, and things got solved, but it was solved by one of those “intuitive leaps” that are so convenient for writers — and a kind of cheap excuse for plotting. But, again, I’d like to say that I enjoyed reading the book, and will be picking up more by this author in the future. So I guess the fact that the mystery wasn’t the most important part of the story didn’t hurt it at all. – Mrs. Hall
